Exciting Music in a Dramatic Landscape

Showcase Event 7th July 2010

Dolebury Warren is a dramatic place – a Mendip hilltop with stunning views. If you’d been there on the sunny afternoon of July 5th you would have seen people wearing headphones dotted across the hilltop. They were walking slowly, pausing for a while, then walking on again. They were searching for music.

Each of them was finding and hearing music composed for different places on the hilltop, and which can only be heard in those places thanks to new GPS enabled technology. They were stopping to listen and as each piece was completed moving on again to find more music.

Music on Mendip is a collaboration between several partners and Churchill Community School. It is financially supported by Find Your Talent – a scheme run by North Somerset Council to encourage creativity and cultural activity in schools – and Mendip AONB Sustainability Fund, which supports a range of projects to engage the broad community with the Mendip landscape in ways that are sustainable in the long term.
